What is Leukemia Cancer?
Leukemia cancer is the type of cancer which develops in the bone marrow. According to American cancer society new cases and deaths in 2022 an estimated 60,650 new cases of leukemia will be diagnosed in the US and 24,000 will die from the disease.
Also the incidence and trends of leukemia cancer from 2008 to 2009 increased in children and adolescence by about 1% per year and stable in adults ages 20 and older.
According to national cancer institutes, the rate of new cancer related to leukemia is about 14.1 per 100,000 for men and women per year. The data is based on 2015-2019 cases and 2016-2020.
Categories of Leukemia Cancer
Leukemia cancer is divided into four main groups according to cell type and rate of growth;
• Acute lymphatic leukemia (ALL).
• Acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
• Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).
• Chronic myeloid leukemia (CCL).
Risk Factor and Causes of Leukemia Cancer.
I. Ionizing radiation
Ionizing radiation can be inducing the risk of leukemia cancer, one can be exposed to the risk of ionizing radiation during the prior treatment of cancer.
II. Tobacco smoking
The risk of leukemia cancer is also being high to smokers compared to non-smokers this is due to dangerous substances available in tobacco (AML is common among the adult who involving in cigarette smoking).
Also the parents who are cigarette smokers the risk of acute leukemia for their children is very high.
III. Leukemia cancer can also be related to genetic factors.
Past generations who are struggling with leukemia cancer the chances of spreading to their future generation is very possible.
IV. Chemotherapy
Leukemia cancer can also be related to chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is the cancer treatment protocol where chemicals used to kill cancer cells, those chemicals can be associated with the risk of getting leukemia cancer.
